Lod man shot dead; separately, blast at restaurant hours after Netanyahu ate there

A 20-year-old resident of Lod was killed in a shooting, in one of three apparently criminal incidents on Thursday night.

Alah Alsach was found with critical injuries on a street in the central Israeli city. Paramedics rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he died from his wounds shortly after.

Police were investigating the shooting and said they collected evidence from the scene.

In a separate incident Thursday night, a package exploded next to a motorcycle outside a restaurant in the northern coastal city of Hadera, hours after the venue hosted opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu as he campaigned for the upcoming elections.

There was no indication the blast was aimed at Netanyahu or his election campaign.

According to the Ynet news site, the package was placed next to the parked car of a known criminal who was inside the restaurant when it detonated at 10.30 p.m.

No one was injured in the explosion, which police were investigating.

In an unrelated incident, police engaged in a firefight with gunmen in the northern town of Maghar, with two suspects wounded.

The alleged gunmen, along with another assailant, were suspected of having opened fire on a jewelry store in Maghar earlier Thursday evening.

Following the shootout, the two gunmen attempted to flee the scene in a car but were quickly stopped and arrested by police. The two were taken to a hospital in Tiberias.
