Downswell brings cheer with ‘Reggae Christmas Medley’

Gospel artiste Kevin Downswell is bringing cheer to the Christmas season with his newly released Reggae Christmas Medley that is now available on all music platforms.

With it, he brings hope for a more peaceful Yuletide season with God at its centre.

"[My hope for the Christmas Season] is that we all would really stop, slow down, and see God's handiwork in our lives. Even if we don't serve Hm the way we ought to, He has been good to us, He's been merciful and gracious. I just want us to pause and acknowledge that. He deserves that," he shared with Gospel Spotlight.

Nothing really puts people in a good mood quite like Christmas carols and when you add a reggae twist to it, getting into the vibe, mood and reason for the season is easy. According to Downswell, he wanted to do just that with his medley of popular Christmas tunes.

"I felt like this year was rough for a lot of people, and I sensed that we needed something to help us close out the year. Something reflective and something that moves us to just be thankful; something that would put a smile on people's face and to warm their hearts, and this Christmas track was 'the answer'," he said.

Downswell said the five-minute-long track just flowed out of him and did not take him too long to complete. The best part for him was the creativity that was incorporated.

"The highlight of it is the sweet reggae music, the interludes like ' paint di house, and sweep do yard, 'cause we a eat breadfruit and ackee and salt fish latah, latah'. It's a fresh twist to these cherished Christmas gems," he excitedly expressed.

As for the rest of the year, Downswell plans to balance work and family.

"My schedule is packed with bookings for the rest of the year, and we have an album to drop soon. But more than anything else, I really want to spend some quality time with my family this holiday season," he said.

"We have a massive album to drop, and we have some other major stuff being planned, but knowing me, I love to work in silence and reveal everything when the time is right. I thank God for all He is about to do," he added.
