JFJ condemns personal attacks against DPP

By Kimone Witter

Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) has condemned the personal attacks against Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn.

JFJ Executive Director Mickel Jackson says the utterances by Isat Buchanan and PNP General Secretary Dayton Campbell are shocking considering their level of education.

"I think every single Jamaican must join in condemning the distasteful comments made by Mr. Buchanan. Absolutely. And I think those that were made by Dr. Dayton Campbell on a public platform regarding the DPP must also be condemned," she insisted.

"We must treat matters of this nature with sensitivity, without putting people's reputation at risk. We must have cerebral approach. These are bright people, so-called 'bright' people, and we have to rise up and level up, and we hope that well-thinking Jamaicans who are listening on also condemn any future politicking on this particular issue," Ms. Jackson urged.

She was speaking Tuesday on TVJ's Smile Jamaica.

PSOJ President Metry Seaga has joined the call for disciplinary measures against Mr. Buchanan, who has resigned as chair of the People's National Party's Human Rights Commission following the incident.

Mr. Seaga was terse in his reaction to Mr. Buchanan's misogynistic attack on Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn, calling the attorney "a disgrace to his profession and to public life, and to the People's National Party".

The PSOJ said the General Legal Council and the Jamaican Bar Association should take action against Mr. Buchanan as it is essential that the legal profession maintains the highest ethical standards, and actions that undermine the dignity of public office must not go unaddressed.
