By Halshane Burke

The Police High Command is reporting a reduction in major crimes for the month of January when compared with the corresponding period last year.

Major crimes were down by 31 per cent when compared to the same period in 2022.

Murders were down by 34 per cent.

Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson says gang-related activity accounted for 65 per cent of the murders, while interpersonal conflicts accounted for 22 per cent.

Three per cent of murders occurred in the furtherance of other criminal acts and 10 per cent are still being determined.

Shootings have also registered a decline, going down by 26 per cent when compared to last January.

Rape, robberies and break-ins declined by 47, 44 and seven per cent respectively.

General Anderson, who was addressing a JCF press briefing Tuesday afternoon, noted that divisions across the island have been affected by murders caused by interpersonal conflicts.

He appealed to citizens to report domestic disputes and allow the police to intervene.
