NIA urges that more incentives be provided for whistleblowers

Professor Trevor Munroe, Principal Director of National Integrity Action, is urging that further incentives be provided in the Whistle Blower legislation for those who wish to report acts of corruption.

The relevant statute, officially known as the Protected Disclosures (Whistle Blower) Act, 2011, encourages people to make reports regarding improper conduct such as corruption, in the interest of the public.

Professor Munroe suggested on Monday that, despite the cultural aversion to reporting wrong doing, there still exists those within the society who are willing to come forward.

Speaking on The Morning Agenda, on Power 106, he added that the provision of better compensation will increase that number.

He's again calling for the repeal of The Official Secrets Act, which he believes has been used to prevent people from making important disclosures.
