Schools to get additional furniture by year-end

It has been announced that a total of 21,900 pieces of school furniture will be delivered in the next two months by the Ministry of Education.

Education Minister Fayval Williams provided a breakdown during Wednesday's post Cabinet media briefing.

Some 15,500 pieces are desks and chairs for students.

In addition, 1,200 trapizoidal tables and 3,600 chairs, along with 1,600 desks and chairs for teachers will be built.

The Education Minister said the furniture will be produced under the Select Group Programme, which "facilitates the manufacture of furniture from scratch by high school students".

She said the build process will be supervised by teachers as well as other skilled people.

The minister pointed out that the Bureau of Standards examines the quality of the furniture and provides approvals.
