Motorists who use the Spring Village Bridge in St. Catherine will no longer have access to the structure.
The National Works Agency closed the bridge on Friday following routine inspections that determined that the structure had been severely compromised and posed a danger to the motoring public.
The Spring Village Bridge takes vehicular traffic from the direction of Gutters/Old Harbour Road to the communities of Spring Village, Bamboo, Back Pasture and Worthy Park.
NWA Communication and Customer Services Manager Stephen Shaw disclosed that a technical team inspected the bridge and found that it had cracks in the deck and some steel members were compromised from vehicular accidents.
One of the two abutments also showed signs of weakness.
The NWA says motorists needing to travel from the direction of Gutters/Old Harbour Road may use the route through Nightingale Grove, which leads back onto the Spring Village main road.
The reverse obtains for motorists heading from the direction of Spring Village, Back Pasture or Worthy Park.
