Westmoreland Man Charged Following Triple Shooting

A Westmoreland man has been charged by detectives following a triple shooting on Bangie Lane, Smithfield in the parish in July 2020.

The accused is 27-year-old Odane Cooper, farmer of Wharf Road, Smithfield in Westmoreland. Cooper turned himself in to police at the Savanna-la-Mar Police Station, accompanied by his attorney on June 1, 2022.

Reports are that about 12:15 p.m., three men were searching for a stolen cow when on reaching Bangie Lane, it is alleged that Cooper opened gunfire at the men who subsequently fled. A report was made to the police and an investigation launched.

On Saturday, June 4, Cooper was charged with three counts of Shooting with Intent and Illegal Possession of Firearm.

His court date is being finalised.
