Unstable weather conditions expected to ease as of Wednesday

AMMAN — The Public Security Directorate (PSD) on Tuesday called on the public to exercise caution during the unstable weather conditions currently affecting the Kingdom.

The weather will stabilise on Wednesday, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department. A slight rise in temperatures is expected on Thursday, the weather department said.

The PSD also warned of flood formation in valleys and low-altitude areas, mainly in the southern and eastern parts of the country, according to a PSD statement.

The directorate also called on motorists to exercise caution while driving on highways due to slippery roads, warning the public of fog formation in late night hours in mountainous areas and of low visibility, mainly in the Badia region, due to dust formation.

It also called on the public to ensure the safe use of heaters and to ventilate residences occasionally, urging the public to call 911 in the case of an emergency.

Also on Tuesday, the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) announced a moderate level of emergency as of the morning due to the expected weather conditions.

GAM Media Director Naser Rahamneh urged the public to call 102 or 117180 in case of emergency, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Meanwhile, Aqaba Education Director Sumayyah Bardini, in coordination with the Aqaba governor, decided to suspend classes at all public and private schools on Tuesday after the southern governorate witnessed heavy rainfall, Petra added.

Southern Badia Education Director Hamad Hajaya also decided to suspend classes for the same reason.

Maan Governor Faisal Masaeed announced a state of maximum alert in the governorate due to the weather conditions.

Masaeed decided to suspend classes at schools as well as in-person classes at Al Hussein University and Maan University College and to switch to remote education. Tuesday’s examinations have been delayed to ensure students' safety, according to Petra.
