St. Kitts to Host Inaugural Crime Intervention Soccer Camp for Youths

Basseterre St. Kitts is gearing up to host a ground-breaking event aimed at combating crime and fostering positive youth development. The Security Forces United Football Team is launching a unique crime intervention initiative, which will be executed through the inaugural Crime Intervention Summer Soccer Camp. This transformative project, organized in collaboration with coaches from American colleges and academies, will take place in the federation from July 17th to 28th, 2023.

In light of the alarming surge in criminal activity and its devastating impact on the younger generation, this crime intervention soccer camp holds immense significance. Too many young lives have been needlessly lost, families, torn apart, and children left without fathers. The Security Forces United Football Team recognizes the urgent need for community policing and aims to target youths across the federation through this remarkable initiative.

The Crime Intervention Summer Soccer Camp is designed to not only nurture soccer skills but also promote personal development among participants. Soccer coaches from American colleges and academies will lead the camp, offering their expertise to aspiring young players. By attracting a new generation to the sport, the project aspires to cultivate top sportsmen and women in St. Kitts & Nevis. Moreover, it seeks to inspire and motivate young individuals to excel academically while pursuing sporting excellence. By providing positive alternatives to crime and anti-social behavior, the camp aims to shape a brighter future for the nation’s youth.

Inspector John Bergan, the lead for this crime intervention initiative, emphasizes the historic nature of the Crime Intervention Summer Soccer Camp. He believes it will serve as a transformative milestone in the growth and development of youth soccer in the federation.

The camp also presents an extraordinary opportunity for the participating American coaches. Along with coaching activities, they will engage in school talks and scouting for soccer talent within the federation. This talent identification process aims to secure athletic scholarships for promising players to attend colleges in the United States and explore semi-professional opportunities. In addition, the camp aims to foster enduring relationships within the soccer community by donating sporting equipment and sharing their expertise.

The Security Forces United Football Club has joined with the government, local businesses, the Dr. Denzil Douglas charity Global Lifestyle Foundation and the US branch of the Reach One Teach One Building Bridges to Success organization to ensure the success of this impactful event. Through collaborative efforts, the camp will create a memorable and life-changing experience for the youths of St. Kitts and Nevis, shaping their future through the power of soccer.
