Man gets 10 years imprisonment for stabbing his niece in Mangochi

The Mangochi First Grade Magistrate’s Court has today convicted and sentenced a 46-year-old man identified as ldi Abudu to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for stabbing his 22-year-old niece with a spear.

State prosecutor Ted Namaona told the court that the convict was recently pardoned from a 4-year jail term after he was convicted of wounding his father about two years ago.

The court heard that in April this year, the convict stabbed her niece with a spear on the chest for allegedly mocking his haircut.

The victim collapsed instantly and was later rushed to Mangochi District Hospital where she was admitted for a week.

During court proceedings, Abudu pleaded not guilty but he was later convicted following evidence presented by state witnesses.

In his submission, Namaona told the court that Abuduh’s behaviour of resisting change is pathetic and cannot be tolerated in society, hence he asked the court to give him a custodial sentence.

In his ruling, First Grade Magistrate Roy Kakutu concurred with the state and handed him the 10-year jail term sentence, to deter would-be offenders.

Idi Abuduh hails from Bwanali Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chowe in Mangochi District.
