Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa has blasted President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera for failing to fulfil some of the campaign promises after being in office for three years.

Nankhumwa said this this during whistle stop tours currently underway in the commercial capital Blantyre.

“Among other things, they promised Malawians ‘kudya katatu’; cheap fertilizer, 1 million jobs and so many other things that would translate into better living standards for Malawians. Now, my question is: Do you have better living standards; are you buying cheap fertilizer, are you eating three times a day? Not at all,” he said.

He said time has come for Malawians to differentiate between the DPP government and the current MCP one, saying it is obvious the former had the interests of Malawians at heart.

Nankhumwa said it is for this reason that Malawians will have to vote for the DPP on September 16, 2025, whose government will restore the dignity of Malawians.

He urged the people of Mdeka to ensure that they register as Malawi citizens to be eligible to vote in 2025.

Right Honourable Dr. Nankhumwa urged various leaders in the DPP to promote the spirit of unity among themselves in order for the party to win back power. He, however, emphasized that the DPP will have to go through a leadership competition to elect the party President and that he already presented himself as a party presidential candidate, “and I am poised to win”.

“We’re meeting as Parliament, and I can assure you that the opposition MPs will take the government to task over the various incidents of misrule,” he said, among other issues.

Right Honourable Dr. Nankhumwa is accompanied by DPP regional, district and constituency officials, traditional leaders, and Members of Parliament (MPs), Francis Phiso, Yusuf Nthenda, Nicholas Dausi, Sameer Suleiman, Gertrude Nankhumwa, and Masauko White.
