The body of former Minister of Disability and the Elderly, Clement Karim Khembo was laid to rest Thursday at Mejala Village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Mlilima in Chikwawa District.

The burial was preceded by prayers and speeches from family members and sympathisers including Minister of Water and Sanitation Abida Mia who represented President Dr Lazarus Chakwera.

In her eulogy, the Chikwawa Nkombezi legislator described late Khembo as a humble, selfless man who worked hard in his life.

“Khembo was a good father and politician who lived well with his people including everybody around him and that is why there is a huge turnout of people from all walks of life who have come to pay their last respect,” said Mia.

She added that the deceased used to assist his communities without looking at their political affiliations.

Mia, therefore, urged Malawians to emulate late Khembo’s attributes which include hard-work and patriotism.

Speaking on behalf of the bereaved family, Lozani Fatch, said the political veteran, who was born in 1934, succumbed to kidney problems at the Adventist Hospital in Blantyre on Monday June 19, 2023 at the age of 89.

“We will remember him as a great man who was a source of wisdom to our family,” he said.

Fatch thanked President Chakwera for directing that late Khembo’s funeral be held with military honours in recognition of various roles he has played in the country.

“We commend President Lazarus Chakwera for the support rendered and for helping us with K1.5 million,” added Fatch.
