Compiled by C. ARUNO, ASHLEY TANG and R. ARAVINTHAN

THEY say that a teacher takes a hand and touches a heart, and this is seen in the case of a Malaysian engineer in the United States who wants to meet his teacher once he returns home this month.

“I never thought that he would one day become a senior engineer in the United States and that the first person he wanted to see once he is home would be the teacher who fed him Milo when he was a child,” wrote the teacher in a Facebook post under the name Swallow Lew.

China Press, quoting from the posting, said the student once performed poorly in school and was deemed to have a learning disability. He was also from a lower-income family, which prompted the teacher to give him private tuition.

Lew recounted how she once caught him in tears while hiding in her kitchen.

The boy’s hands and face were covered with Milo powder.

“He thought he would be scolded. I quickly wiped him clean,” the teacher from Segamat wrote.

In the next three years, Lew would reward him with two spoonfuls of Milo powder whenever the student worked hard in class.

Lew showed a screengrab of her WhatsApp conversation with the student, who identified himself as “the one who ate your Milo powder 17 years ago”.

He mentioned that he would be returning home this month and that “the first person I wanted to meet is teacher”.

The heartwarming story has gone viral online.

This time, it’s the turn of Richell Lee, who has accepted a proposal from her boyfriend during a trip to Japan.

Lee, 29, who is now a ballet instructor, posted a picture on Instagram of herself and her Mr Right.

“You asked whether I’m willing to let you take care of me the rest of our lives. And I said yes, I do, to the love of my life,” she wrote on June 9.
