KOTA KINABALU: Five teenagers and an adult have been nabbed for their alleged involvement in a street brawl in Tawau.
The teens, aged between 15 and 18, and the 26-year-old had no identification documents with them when they were detained.
Tawau police chief Asst Comm Peter Umbuas said five of them were nabbed at about 1.45am yesterday while another was arrested on Saturday evening.
“We are searching for three more suspects aged between 16 and 18 to help with the investigation,” he added.
ACP Umbuas said a 17-year-old boy who was beaten with a wooden plank during the brawl had lodged a police report.
He said prior to the street brawl, the victim who was drunk had broken one of the suspect’s silver necklace in a toilet near a bus station.
The suspect told his brother and the latter then confronted the victim.
“A fight ensued and some of the brother’s friends tried to calm things down but it only got worse and turned into a group fight,” he said.
ACP Umbuas said the victim managed to run to a nearby market for help but when he returned, the attackers had fled.
The victim sustained minor injuries and received outpatient treatment at Tawau Hospital.
The incident was recorded and circulated on social media.
