Ndevashiya denies abandoned Ohangwena education project

Ohangwena governor Walde Ndevashiya says a recent media report claiming that construction of the Ohangwena education directorate at Eenhana has been halted is false.

This comes after The Namibian on Tuesday reported that the project, worth N$52 million, was abandoned in 2019 due to the involved contractor’s inadequate technical capacity.

“I even shared pictures of the current construction progress at the site of the regional directorate of education,” the governor said on Tuesday.

He said the newspaper’s report was based on a 2020 report by the minister of works and transport.

“We can confidently say the building is 85% complete,” Ndevashiya said.

Namibian Sun in 2019 reported that the Ohangwena education directorate is spending millions a year on renting offices, while the construction of its office complex has been terminated until further notice due to poor workmanship.

The education directorate forks out N$400 000 a month in rental fees for offices at Eenhana after it moved from Ondangwa in October 2012.
