Nust triumphs at BoN debate challenge again

The Bank of Namibia (BoN) last month held its third debating competition on virtual currency and stabilising inflation.

The debate, which featured the University of Namibia (Unam), the Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust), the International University of Management (IUM), and Triumphant College, was hosted at Unam on 20 June.

“This debating challenge serves as a public education initiative with the objective of fostering greater interest in economics among tertiary students, while also shedding light on the pivotal role played by the central bank in the economy,” says BoN spokesperson Sandra Garises.

Nust came first, scooping an amount of N$10 000 for a second year running. Unam took second place and received N$5 000. IUM was placed third and received N$2 500.

Triumphant College finished in fourth place and received N$1 000.

Central bank deputy governor Ebson Uanguta says: “It is undeniable that this platform plays a crucial role in shaping the world view of participating students at an individual level.”

He says these debates teach young people critical intellectual, interpersonal and life skills.
