Russia says it took village near key Donetsk city, Ukraine disputes claim

Russias Defense Ministry announced roughly a year ago that its troops had gained control of Maksymilianivka a small settlement located less than 10 km from Kurakhove‚ an important city in Ukraines eastern Donetsk region. However‚ this claim couldnt be independently verified by Reuters.

The Kurakhove area‚ situated to the west of Donetsk (which is under Russian control) is one of the main points where Russia is slowly moving forward in the region. Their aim is to reach Pokrovsk a logistics center about 50 km north of Kurakhove.

Ukraines military General Staff‚ in its evening update‚ stated that Ukrainian forces had successfully stopped 36 out of 45 Russian attacks near Kurakhove over a 24-hour period. Nine battles were still ongoing at the time of the report.

DeepState‚ a well-known Ukrainian military blog suggested that the status of Maksymilianivka was still contested‚ differing from Russias claim of full control.

The Ukrainian military also reported that in the Pokrovsk area‚ they had repelled 35 out of 45 attempted Russian advances showing the intensity of the fighting in this strategic sector
