A former legal adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra state, Mr. Chuks Okoye at the weekend declared his ambition to contest the Anambra central senatorial district election in the forthcoming general elections under the (PDP)platform.
Okoye who disclosed this at the weekend while briefing newsmen in Awka, the Anambra state capital said his decision was based on pressure by some of his admirers in his senatorial district whom he said had already pledged to set up a trust fund to fund his campaign.
He said that those who mounted pressure on him to enlist in the senatorial district election cut across the seven local governments and 53 communities that make up the Anambra central senatorial zone, adding that they told him that they were particularly happy with him because he has credibility and wealth of experience in the law.
Okoye stated, “The pressure on me to run for the 9th Senate has been so much that my people have decided to set up a trust fund from which the project will be executed.
“As a lawyer by training, with courage and eloquence, they said I’m better equipped than others eyeing the position.
“They said experience too will give me an edge to serve where laws are manufactured,” he explained.
Regretting the dearth infrastructure in the zone occasioned by protracted marginalization, the Senatorial hopeful pledged to champion the cause of restructuring the country through the instrumentality of legislation if voted into power.
Okoye also promised to pursue a bill for the enforcement of referendum as well as establishment of a judiciary police targeted at giving that arm of government a “teeth that can bite.”
