Youths drawn from four political wards in Etim Ekpo local government area of Akwa Ibom State, have been warned to desist from being used by desperate politicians to cause mayhem during and after the polls.
Addressing a political rally organized in his honour by elders, leaders and stakeholders of Obong/Utit Annang clan at St Joseph’s primary school, Iwukem in Etim Ekpo local government at the weekend, the House of Representaives member for Abak Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon, said guns were no longer fashionable in Nigerian politics.
“I will never buy guns for you, so reject any gun wrapped with money from desperate politicians whose children would not even come out on the elections days.
“I want to assure you that adequate protection would be guaranteed by the federal government as you go out to exercise your franchise, but ensure you do so within the confines of the law”, Ekon said.
The lawmaker, who recently defected from the former ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the central ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), explained that it became imperative to jump ship in order to guide the zone in a new political direction for more dividends of democracy for the people.
He charged party supporters to be sufficiently educated and enlightened to wisely use the ballot to elect credible characters that would defend the country’s democratic ideals.
Ekon, Chairman of the House of Representaives Committee on Local Content, said he had impacted positively on hundreds of his constituents drawn from Abak, Etim Ekpo and Ika local government areas since 2015.
