Arist Profile: Min Ja Gan

His name is Emmanuel Ola, but prefers the stage name Min Ja Gan (Pronounced Min Jah Gun) is the proud big brother of Adrian Ola aka Drian B and is also a supporting lead vocalist of the band.

“Adrian was the one that started Jnr Vigi, I came in the mix a little later”, said Min Ja Gan.

Emmanuel’s interest in singing began when his grandparents brought him to church and clan meetings. That’s where he heard his late Bubu’s sing peroveta’s (Prophet songs).

He really didn’t think much of the singing profession as he was focused on his studies in school. His aim was to become an engineer.

In 2016, he graduated from Gordon Secondary School but got no offers to further his studies. “So, I started work as a receptionist at The Laguna Hotel”, where he maintained working there for quite sometime.

Whilst working there, he saw on Facebook about a Music TV show that had people auditioning and trying out. He thought to try it out just for fun and to see if he would get in. At the first audition, the judges put him on the waiting list to be called back.

“There were so many talented singers that auditioned and I was among them. But I didn’t let that pull me down. I said to just give it my best shot.”

He got called back and surprisingly, got a golden ticket to participate in the show. Most of the confidence that he has on stage, is due to the fact that he performed in that talent show and learned a few tips from the judges.

He went as far as the top 13 before getting eliminated. And on stage, he vowed that, that wasn’t the last they would hear from him.

“I took music more seriously after that, and landed Jnr Vigi’s first gig with Jaro Local”, he said. The song ‘Vavine’ was a hit and they were slowly gaining recognition because of it.

Years have passed, and my brother and I have continued to maintain our artistry as well as not forgetting our roots.

Artists like, Martin Rawali, Noel Asi, George Kali, Oshen, George Fiji, Spawnbreezie, Boyz to men, have influenced us a lot in the way we sing and write our songs.

Emmanuel and the brothers have won a music award but the journey doesn’t end there.

“We are looking to continue working hard in our music career and hopefully produce and sing more good songs for our fans and family”, he said.
