Artist Profile: Rhee Gial

Meet Natuharinah Holden, better known as Rhee Gial. A Taurus, born on the 29th of April, 1996 hails from Kavieng and Vanuatu.

She is the eldest of 5 siblings and her hobbies besides music is Reading and Cooking. As an ex-Jubilee Catholic Secondary School student, “I enjoyed English lessons and practical skills in school but was never involved with arts”, said Rhee.

Back in 2019, late November or December, I used to upload singing covers on Facebook and I was then approached by Alex Lazarus, also known as Slayden. He asked me to sing a song with him and that’s how ‘Said I Loved You’ Tok Pisin cover, which was recorded under Stagajah Studios and is now Statz Muzik back in early 2020.

“From there, we did the music video in June the same year and then, that’s when my music demand took off from there.

“Music is a fun thing to do; entertainment on the other hand is a big deal for me. When I grew up learning about music and arts, I saw a big platform that had unlimited space.

“Today it’s not as diverse as it was before. It has become stagnant. I want to utilise my platform to bring exposure to arts and entertainment and build people who want to share ideas on this platform, do tours and share a wide range of diverse talents all around.

“Either be music or singing or dance or drama or arts etc… have the possibility to go places because of entertainment as a whole.

“I am working on a new song writing but I’m trying to get to outreach like hosting events and doing show cases.

“That’s just what I’m planning in my little corner.

I have always believed that a human being was made up of different components and constructs in a very broad and unique way.

“Therefore, there is a lot that one person can make out of one dream and desire.

“I desired and dreamt of being someone great when I was growing.

“And it took one talent of singing just to put myself out there in the spotlight. From this platform I hope to build a good career that will help me bring my dreams to reality one day.

“So, no one can say they can’t get to do or become what they want; Identify what your talent is and cultivate from there.

“Reach out and source different ways to build your dreams to achieving them. Never see anything too difficult to do and never see yourself less valuable to become what you desire to be.

“I would like to take this time to say thank you to YUMIFM PNG MUSIK Awards and PNGFM for the opportunity to share and be a part of a prestigious event in the music industry.

I have been in this industry for 3 years now and I can say boldly that Papua New Guinea is so talented and rich with so much ideas in this field of music and entertainment.

Being part of this industry has made me develop so much experience and even more, friendships that will always be priceless to me.

Also, to learn and work with music producers from the start; Statz Javosa Ai whom I owe so much gratitude to for making music possible for me to be heard and recognised in this industry.

“Being amongst artists like Chaddy and Pauline Ipah who then introduced me to Darkroom Production and Kenz who introduced me to MV Productions and so much more, that I am very much blessed and honoured to have come across.

“I have grown through this wide network.

“Having the opportunity to perform and share the stage with great musicians as well and knowing different sound engineers has very much enhanced my understanding to know how music works and what comes with it.

“With that, I would like to say thank you to the good Lord for gracing me with this talent and to Papua New Guinea and other parts of the world for supporting my music, and my family for being there when I needed them to make time for studio time and gigs.

Thank you tumas!
