Koim and Kramer to be called in for questioning
POLICE will call in Madang Open MP Bryan Kramer and former taskforce sweep chairman Sam Koim for questioning over the 2017 killing of former Border Development Authority chairman Fred Konga.
Konga’s killing inside his vehicle on a Port Moresby road is the subject of an ongoing police investigation.
Mr Baki said Mr Kramer’s recent post on social media, showing a picture of Konga lying dead inside his vehicle was not only rude, but “very disrespectful”.
He said the family and friends of the victims were still deeply hurt by the brutal crime and the MP showed no remorse “when he had the audacity to post insensitive comments and the picture … on social media”.
Konga was killed in August last year when he was allegedly ambushed by two vehicles that blocked his route along the Poreporena Freeway in Central Waigani as he was heading home to Hohola.
He was shot as he sat in the driver’s seat and while shot he drove past the vehicle, jumped the traffic island and came to a halt near the intersection opposite RSPCA veterinary clinic where he died from gun shot wounds despite attempts to resuscitate him.
Mr Baki said that detectives investigating the case may have to question Mr Kramer and Mr Koim over their social media texts which allegedly suggested that the identities of Konga’s killers were known to them.
He said the two men “pre-empted some very sensitive information” which was of interest to the police. Detectives would now pursue and question them about their knowledge on the Konga murder investigation, he added.
“I did not tell Bryan that he would be assassinated as I did not receive such. I told him that according to a source, something might be planned against him. I only conveyed a veiled threat I received from a source, only for him to take personal precautions. I did not tell him that it was connected to his politics or political activities. I did not have that information either.
“While I confirm the screenshot of our private conversations that the good Member for Madang has posted for the whole world to see, I would like to clarify a few things here. It is unfortunate that Bryan Kramer has posted my discrete text to him to take precautions has found its way into the public domain. Intel information is purposely to take responsibility in one’s conduct and actions. In a city like Port Moresby where crimes are occurring at an alarming rate, I cautioned the Honourable member to be mindful of his personal safety.”
Mr Kramer said that he had accepted the fate a long time ago and the real threat would not come from “our corrupt and stupid politicians” but the foreign nationals who pull the strings from behind the scenes and profit from it.
“I have briefed key members in the Opposition that I expect to be killed for doing what I do and it is important they are clear on what to do next when that happens.”
