‘Celebration signifies commitment to uphold children’s rights’

KOIARI school children in Hiri district on Tuesday celebrated Universal Children’s Day at Vaivai village in Central Province.

Among the guests was Kairuku Hiri MP Peter Isoaimo, ExxonMobil and ChildFund representatives.

Mr Isoaimo said: “I’m happy to be here and be part of this celebration and I am excited to see all you children here as well.

“We are all gathered here on this very special day for children called Universal Children’s Day.

“Children should be cared for and loved by the parents, family and the community, and they must eat healthy food, drink clean water, wear clean clothes and feel safe.

“Children should live in a healthy environment where they feel safe at home, school, on the playground, in churches and in the community and they must have access to quality education.”

“We reaffirm our obligation to do everything in our power to enable all children to survive and thrive, learn and grow, have their voices heard and reach their full potential.

“Many children in our communities are subjected to different forms of child abuse, neglect, exploitation and cruelty.”

Ms Lagdom challenged the parents to ensure that all children’s rights are protected and upheld, regardless of whether they are a boy or girl, where they are from or their levels of abilities.
