Dei and WHP in mourning

Dei District and Western Highlands Province is now sorrowfully mourning the very shocking death of its local MP Steven Pim who had sadly passed on in Port Moresby on Sunday.

Acting prime minister William Duma said it was very heartbreaking news to accept the mournful news of late Pim’s passing at the Pacific International Hospital in Port Moresby.

He said late MP Steven Pim was a new Member of Parliament where he had a lot to offer to his people of Dei, with great vision ahead.

Mr Duma said it was very sad to realise that he was into his 14th month as the elected Member of Parliament representing the people of Dei district.

“His death is a very big loss to our province, especially the people of Dei as there would be a leadership vacuum for the Dei electorate.

And unfortunately, our people of Dei will be sorrowfully forced to go back again to elect a new MP to represent them in the floor of Parliament,” he said.

Mr Duma, who is also the local MP for Mt Hagen Open electorate and Minister for State Owned Enterprises, made his remarks at the official commencement of the Pacific Island Tax Administrators Association 20th meeting in Mt Hagen on Monday.

Dei is one of the four districts in Western Highlands Province including Tambul-Nebilyer, Mul Baiyer-Lumusa, Dei and the Mt Hagen Open.

So far, the people of Dei district have lost three leaders within the months of August and September, 2023, and these great Eagles were late Pate Wamp from the twin tribe of Kombolga and Minimbi, late Nicholas Namba from the tribe of Kawalka and now late MP Steven Pim from the Rolgka tribe.

These well-known, educated elites, businessmen and great leaders’ deaths have brought shock and disbelief to the people of Dei as they mourn during these two months with mud painted all over their bodies.
