Foundation donates to Mt Bagana volcano relief

The New Britain Palm Oil Limited Foundation has donated store goods and food rations worth over K100,000 towards Mt Bagana disaster relief in Bougainville.

NBPOL Country Manager Robert Nilkare on behalf of the foundation team presented the goods to the Consort Shipping company representatives at the Ramu Agri Industries company yard in Lae.

Mr Nilkare said NBPOL Foundation has been in place for over 20 years and has helped many disasters hit communities in PNG.

This year, the foundation has helped in assisting the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) Government disaster relief team in providing food rations and store goods to the surrounding communities of Mt Bagana that was affected by the volcanos eruption that happened in July.

The volcanic eruption displaced 8,000 people, impacted the vegetation, cash crops and water to the villages in and around Mt Bagana.

Mr Nilkare said over the years, the foundation has assisted in all kinds of disasters and assisted communities around Papua New Guinea in areas where they operate and also areas outside from where they operate.

He said they have stepped in with their first lot of contribution earlier with K30,000 worth of store goods.

“We have done our first contribution which we procured in small Buka and obviously the disaster relief team from Bougainville government has received them.

“This one today, we got a container that will be filled up with goods and be ready to set sail for small Buka in the next few days,” Mr Nilkare said.

He said their team in Buka will receive it and hand over the goods to the team from the AROB government.

“NBPOL Foundation is paying for the container and the goods and the shipping of the

container to small Buka will be done through Consort Shipping and that will be their contribution to assist the foundation in getting these necessary supplies to Buka,” he said.

He thanked Consort Shipping and Steamships group for their assistance and contribution to the foundation, saying they are looking forward to partner with Consort Shipping to assist people in time of disasters and in areas such as education and health.
