Immigration Minister irate over allegations against O’Neill’s citizenship

Immigration Minister Hon. Petrus Thomas says he has watched over the past weeks as social media and few media outlets singling out a television station running claims about the citizenship of Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.

Mr Thomas stressed it was all untrue.

“This claim has now been proven to be fake news that was started by the Member for Madang, Bryan Kramer, with absolutely no evidence,” he said.

“Upon request from the Prime Minister, the Australian Government has released Visa Grant Notice that was issued with his Visa.”

“The document clearly states that the Prime Minister is a Papua New Guinean citizen, not Australian.”

“Australian visas are not issued to Australian citizens,” he explained further.

“This fake news has now been put to rest, and serves as another very important reminder to media outlets and all citizens to be aware of fake news peddled by people with a political agenda.”
