Lavina Williams last bang for 2023

A Love Letter to PNG was the last bang for 2023 for Lavina Williams at Air ways Hotel on Saturday and she went out with a bang as the crowd went wild.

The show was an overall smashing event with everyone singing and dancing to her amazing voice whilst she dished out the songs that we all know and love. Some notable ones were Mariah Careys “Hero”, Whitney Houston’s “I will Always Love you,” Tina Turners “Simply the Best’ and “Whats Love Got to Do.” Of course, she put her own spin in it and drove everyone crazy when se included PNG references inside the lyrics. Truly, it was amazing.

Her voice was phenomenal and hit most of the audience in the heart which was the motivation and theme of her performance. It got everyone standing from their tables and dancing around with their hands in the air. She the notes jus right and hearing the cheers was a true sign that she moved a lot of people. All the songs that she performed was specially chosen because the theme was love.

It was pretty much a mirror what PNG has given her. She was more than happy to do performance for a such a good cause. There were also other guest performances by Didi, Anna Graham and Esra Williams, Lavinas own little sister which moved everyone with their unique voices.

Lavina said that she was most excited to have a chance to sing on stage as most of the time when shes judging on Vocal Fusion, its mostly behind the scenes work.

“I got the opportunity to sing tonight and the event is a huge success,” she added,” The people came here to party, theres a lot of smiles and no complaints.” The main event was a fundraising and concert dinner for the Sir Theo Foundation in raising funds for the Port Moresby General Hospital and the Buk Bilong Pikinini Foundation. Needless to say, it was a success with the Sir Theo Foundation having raised more than K600, OOO and a lot of happy guests singing to Lavinas voice.

She first arrived in Papua New Guinea when she was invited to be a guest judge on Vocal Fusion Season 5. She recalled how she had overhaled the show and how they wanted her to return because she had a passion for underground talent.

“I had a passion for underground talent because I worked with them back home and in Australia,” She recalled,” I had been in the industry since I was 15 in 1995. Ive learned quiet a lot. Papua New Guinea had a lot of raw talent and I could see that it needed to be promoted and marketed internationally.” Williams said that the reason why she kept coming back to PNG was because of the people.

“Ive already loved the people. The very first time I came here, the people took me around and showed me the place and I loved it,” Williams said.

She added that everyone usually sees the bad side on PNG online and she was seeing the good parts of PNG as well on a personal level which made her love the country even more. She created a lot of long-lasting friendships with the locals and that was the one of the main reasons why she keeps coming back to PNG.

She is back with another season of Vocal Fusion this year as a judge and the Creative Director.

Other than Vocal Fusion and this show, she won`t be having another performance so this was her last one as she is here until September.
