A young man has allegedly taken his own life in Lorengau, Manus Province, during the Queen’s Birthday weekend.
According to provincial police commander, Chief Inspector David Yapu, Pondros Kiapin, 26, was found dead, with a rope around his neck in his house in Lorengau between midnight and 1.30am on Saturday.
He said Kiapin was married with one child and was from Mbuke Island.
Mr Yapu said the victim had an argument with his wife earlier in the night and assaulted her.
The wife went to the police station to report the matter and was referred to the hospital to get medical attention before returning home later that night.
Mr Yapu said after the family went to bed, the wife woke up later that night only to find her dead husband hanging outside their living room and immediately alerted her in-laws.
He said the body of the deceased was taken to the Lorengau General Hospital morgue, pending a post mortem and police investigations.
