Opposition says more luxury vehicles purchased
There are new revelations that more vehicles for APEC are on their way here with three new Bentley limousines worth K797,607.00 each.
The three V8 Bentley Flying Spurs will join 40 recently-delivered Maseratis, worth K436,191 each, for the APEC fleet.
According to our sister paper, The Australian, in an exclusive report, they have obtained an invoice for the Bentleys, made out to the chief executive officer of the APEC Secretariat, Chris Hawkins.
The vehicles were purchased from a Malaysian-based company called South Pacific Ventures Inc., which describes itself as providing “business consultancy and services on healthcare development projects in Papua New Guinea and other Pacific Island countries”.
The cars are due to arrive in Port Moresby this month by sea freight.
He questioned the total value of the excise and duty forgone? Why are the nation’s wealthiest businesses and individuals receiving benefits that ordinary Papua New Guineans can only dream of?

“More and more people are dying of preventable diseases such as polio, tuberculosis and malaria. Hospitals and clinics are closing, and essential drugs and other medical supplies are unavailable.
“Schools are closing all over the country, and teachers and other loyal, hardworking public servants are not being paid” he said.
Comments were sought from APEC secretariat on Sir Mekere’s questions and statement but there was no response.
