Passion for baking turns into business

Baking has always been a family trait and for this young woman, it became a life-changer when the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

Bridget Kassman, who is an entrepreneur and runs her own SME business ‘Shamrock OG Catering,’ said this.

Before she ventured into running her own little business, she was an Accounts Sales Manager at a tech company in Port Moresby.

Ms Kassman’s love for baking inspired her to start Shamrock OG Catering. She said she started selling in her kitchen and sold 5 to 10 cakes in one week.

“It started off in my small kitchen at home and sold 5 to 10 cakes in a week. Cakes were ordered by my work colleagues to start me off,” Ms. Kassman said.

She said she values customer service and customer satisfaction as they are key to progressing in business.

“It’s been three (3) years of operation since 2020. Shamrock OG Catering values customer service and customer satisfaction.

“Ms. Kassman added that her day begins as early as 5 a.m. when she begins her preparations for an order.

“As a baker, my day starts off every day at 5 am. When I have orders, I prioritise and prepare paid orders for the day pick up. And when I am free, I manage my social media pages and do bookkeeping.”

When asked about the best part of her job, she said that she loves meeting customers and liaising with them. “The highlight of my job is meeting my customers – New and regular customers.

She also said that apart from baking, she loves to cook and decorate food, cakes, etc.

Her advice to young people is to minimise your distractions and focus on your aspirations. Do mostly what you love. Build that passion and acquire new skills related to your passion/aspirations.

While doing her catering at home, she is also making her dream and passion for fashion modeling come through.

She also provides her catering lunch services by selling doughnuts, sandwiches, and cupcakes. She has now acquired an order from the Director for PNG Fashion Week to provide catering for the PNGFW Team and the models on the 16th of September 2023 Fashion Week Runway Show.

Ms. Kassman also has a charity foundation called “Shamrock & Friends Festive Project” which, she carries out at the end of every year.
