PM Marape has final say on Porgera

Prime Minister James Marape announced on Sunday before jetting off to Jerusalem that the Porgera Development Forum will return to Enga Province.

And he also announced that he will be back in time to attend the forum after his three-nation visit – Israel, Indonesia and France.

The Government announced late last week that the Porgera Development Forum was to be held in Alotau, Milne Bay Province.

This irked Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas who wanted the forum held in his province protesting to the Government against the idea.

The issue also irked the Milne Bay Governor, Gordon Wesley, who supported Enga Governor Sir Peter citing no offence in rejecting to be the host, but due to security reasons.

The loggerhead had caused the Government to cancel the Alotau sector to host the Porgera Development Forum.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Marape announced the forum will return to Enga Province, of which he will also attend for the final talks and signing.

“As I speak in country, there are a couple of development forums running side by side we have Wafi Golpu Development Forum and the Porgera Development Forum, engagements with our landowners and provincial governments are running.

“Later this week, the Porgera meetings that is taking place in Alotau will be relocated back into Enga Province for us to have the final positions ready for signing next week which myself and senior leaders will be in Wabag also,” Marape said.

So a lot of work taking place but some of these international visits we must attend to complete our obligations, so hopefully this time next week I will be back in country ..and will be there for the forum,” Marape said.
