SP Brewery is proud to continue its support and develop rugby league in Papua New Guinea for another year as the major sponsor for our national team and 2017 Queensland Intrust Super Cup champions SP PNG Hunters.
SP Brewery brand manager Lawrence Acanufa, when announcing the 60-man SP PNG Hunters pre-season squad, said it was a pleasure and the company is really excited to be associated with rugby league in Papua New Guinea.
“We are committed to continue our support to develop rugby league in Papua New Guinea at the elite level,” Acanufa said.
“We are very happy that the PNG Rugby Football League has created an institution and pathway that enables PNG players to be able to go overseas and ply their trade to showcase the talent of Papua New Guinean to the world.
“When I heard of players going to play in England and Australia it speaks of the quality of our players here in PNG and it indicates that rugby league and the players in PNG have been developed. This is a step in the right direction.”
Despite having players leaving last season, Acanufa said the side was highly competitive and had the opportunity for new players to come on board and be developed and showcase the best from the country.
“(From) SP Lager and SP Brewery we consider this team to be our team just as we say SP Lager is our beer and what we do believe is for every person to enjoy this game and support our team and also to consume responsibly,” he said.
