‘True meaning of self reliance’

Petroleum Minister Kerenga Kua has commended the Mogl Kakai community in Yongomugl LLG for their move to assist the Mogl Kakai Junior High School in the Sinesine-Yongomugl district during the opening of the administration building last Saturday.

The community put up strings of money.

This is similar to their traditional way of paying bride price to assist the school with K3000.

Mr Kua said this move explains the true meaning of self-reliance when the nation celebrated its 48th independence anniversary.

He said it reflects the statement made by John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States of America; “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”

“I am pleased to see such initiative taken to assist the development of the school rather than waiting for the government funding,” he said.

“It is my utmost pleasure to see my people in the district take the initiative to move forward the development of this newly established junior high school for development.”

Mr Kua said education is a priority in the district development agenda and this move adds

value and prominence to it.

Community representative Tamago Nime said they were pleased to assist in the progress of the school because it reduces the burden of sending the children to other schools in the province.

He said they will not wait for government funding to develop the school.

But will take the first step and wait for the government to come in later.

He said the contribution is given to the school administration for other school development plans.
