Wheels of hope helps to deliver health supplies

THE Nawaeb district has partnered with Niugini Dirt Tours to delivery health supplies to rural aid posts and health centres in the district.

The first roll-out of pharmaceuticals and medicines in Nawaeb district with the assistance of Niugini Dirt Tours (motorbikes) started in August.

The delivery was made through a partnership arrangement with Nawaeb district MP Theo Pelgen.

The health supplies were delivered to Situm Health Centre which fulfilled Mr Pelgen’s commitment made last month.

“In Nawaeb district, we will work together with the Niugini Dirt Tours that will help us deliver medicine to all health centres in the district,” he said.

Mr Pelgen said the partnership aims to help the shortfall in government health services especially in terms of transport and logistics hardships to very rural health facilities.

The medicines and pharmaceuticals included amoxicillin capsules, paracetamol tablets, hand sanitisers, body infrared thermometers, pregnancy kits, a scale and several other vital instruments.

“I told the staff I will return on Wednesday and yes I have lived up to my word to deliver what I could obtain for the health centre,” Mr Pelgen said.

He assured that all health facilities in the district will receive similar support and now with the support of motor bikers, the delivery of these vital support medical items will be more effective.
Another development in the district that the MP is supporting is the new model school canteen for Situm Primary School with the canteen being given a facelift.

MP Pelgen aims to keep the school sustainable through its own canteen and anticipates the completion of the canteen will be the standard set-up to be delivered to all other primary schools in the district.
