Women’s Rugby 7s Team Learn Importance of Wellbeing and Lifestyle

The Solomon Islands women’s rugby 7s team are currently undergoing wellbeing and lifestyle training at the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sports (SINIS).

SINIS are conducting a pre-competition preparation plan for the national women’s rugby 7s team, with the guidance from the SINIS Wellbeing & Lifestyle Performance team.

The women’s 7s team were introduced to an important aspect of the game, one that is often overlooked – the importance of quality sleeping.

The players were taught the necessity of having a regular sleep schedule, and to build that into their plans during the competition period.

They also got tips to get rest in preparation for big matches/games – and to plan on how to wind done early and do some relaxing activities, sleep routines, and eating habits.

The team will get similar post-match advice from the Mental Skills department.

All this is in preparations for the 2022 Oceania Rugby Sevens challenge.

The 2022 event will see eight men’s and six women’s teams from across the Oceania Region participating. Both the Solomon Islands women and the men’s 7s team will attend.

The competition will be held at the Hugh Courtney Oval in Brisbane, Australia.

The top two men’s and the top placed women’s teams at the 2022 Oceania Rugby Sevens Challenge will qualify to the 2023 World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series.

The winner of the 2023 World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series will gain entrance into the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2024.
