Mogadishu (HOL) - The Speaker of the Somali People's Assembly, Sheikh Adam Mohamed Nur (Madobe), held a meeting in Mogadishu with the ambassador of Qatar to Somalia Amb. Hassan bin Hamza Hashem.
Parliamentary Speaker Adam Madobe encouraged the Qatari government to redouble its support to the Somali people and government.
Qatar is one of the most influential countries in Somalia and was known to have been a backer of former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo. Farmajo last visited the wealthy gas-producing emirate in early March.
The current president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has warmer relations with the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
It is the first public meeting that Ambassador Hassan has held with a high-profile member of Somalia's current government.
