Three men charged in connection with gangster James 'Whitey' Bulger's death

Three men were indicted Thursday in connection with the 2018 death of notorious gangster James "Whitey" Bulger, federal prosecutors said.

Bulger was beaten to death in federal prison by Photios Geass, 55, also known as 'Freddy', and Paul J. Decologero, 48, also known as 'Poley', according to prosecutors. It is said that Both have been charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. A third man, Sean McKinnon, 36, was charged with lying to federal agents and conspiring to commit first-degree murder.

Bulger was transferred to United States Penitentiary Hazleton in Bruceton, Virginia, West He was murdered shortly thereafter in federal prison on October 30, 2018.

Boston's winter leader, Bulger Hill, and his gang kept him on the run for 16 years until he was caught by federal authorities and was later tried and convicted. Before being transferred to Lockup in West Virginia, the 89-year-old was held in a federal prison in Florida.

Prison records show that Geass is still in the USP He is imprisoned in Hazelton. and is serving a life sentence for another crime. DeCologero says he is no longer in custody at USP Hazelton and remains in the federal prison system, and McKinnon was released under federal supervision upon indictment and was arrested in Florida on Thursday.

Bulger, who was serving a life sentence, was moved to West Virginia for no real reason, according to a lawsuit filed by his family.

He had had multiple heart attacks and was confined to a wheelchair, a source familiar with his condition told ABC News.

``About 29 or 30 October 2018 Mr. Bulger's physical/medical condition was fraudulently improved and Hazel A transfer and placement to Tonnes has been carried out," attorneys Hank Brennan and David Shane wrote in the administrative complaint.

"For the sake of clarity, I do not believe that the transfer to Hazelton and placement in the public were simply unsafe. We believe it was part of a deliberate conspiracy between the BOP, Department of Justice employees, and others that caused the deaths willfully," the complaint states.

Bulger's death inside a federal prison is just one of his high-profile unsolved deaths, and another is Jeffrey Epstein's suicide in a Manhattan jail.

The Bureau of Prisons did not respond to his ABC News request for comment.
