Aaron Rodgers: Buccaneers Jumbotron showed something it ‘probably shouldn’t’

After destroying two Microsoft Surface tablets in Week 2 against the Saints, Tom Brady may need to turn his focus to a bigger piece of technology: the Raymond James Stadium Jumbotron.

Because according to Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers — the fellow future Hall of Fame QB who bested Brady’s Buccaneers, 14-12, on Sunday — the stadium’s giant screen may have contributed to the loss.

Rodgers was seen talking to Packers head coach Matt LaFleur as the Bucs attempted a two-point conversion that would have tied the game in the closing seconds. When asked about what he was talking about, he said that something on the Jumbotron tipped him off to what play Tampa Bay was going to run.

“They showed it on the previous play, too,” Rodgers said. “It was a delay on both plays. But sometimes you see things in the game. Sometimes the Jumbotron shows things they probably shouldn’t show, even at home. I saw something and just passed on the information.”

What exactly Rodgers saw is unclear, but it clearly helped. The Buccaneers took a delay of game penalty that pushed the conversion attempt back to the 7-yard line. Then the Packers defended the two-point attempt perfectly, and Brady’s pass intended for Russell Gage fell harmlessly to the turf, sealing the Bucs’ first defeat of the 2022 season.

It’s been a bit of a shaky start for the Bucs, despite the team holding a 2-1 record. After leading the NFL in passing in 2021, Brady is currently 22nd in yards, just above Davis Mills. The Bucs as a team are 23rd in offensive points, though their defense has allowed the fewest points in the league.

Brady, 45, was missing his top wide receivers, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, as well as Julio Jones, in the Packers loss. He has also been reportedly dealing with marital drama, as wife Gisele Bundchen has reportedly not been thrilled with the decision to un-retire this offseason.

Rodgers, for his part, has also gotten off to a 2-1 start with the Packers, though Green Bay has actually scored one fewer point per game than Tampa Bay through three contests. Rodgers’ top receiving target, Davante Adams, was traded to the Raiders in the offseason.
