Alexandra Pelosi says dad Paul is ‘healing, but ‘looks like Frankenstein’ after hammer attack

Filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi says her father Paul is “healing” after a brutal hammer attack left him with a fractured skull in October — but added that the 82-year-old “looks like Frankenstein.”

Alexandra — the youngest of Paul and outgoing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s five children — gave an update on her father’s condition in an interview with “CBS Sunday Morning” to promote her forthcoming HBO documentary “Pelosi in the House.”

“He is getting better every day. Thank you for asking,” Alexandra Pelosi told Dickerson. “The scars are healing. I mean, he looks like Frankenstein. The scars are healing, but I think the emotional scars, I don’t know if those ever heal.”

Paul Pelosi was alone at the family’s San Francisco home when conspiracy theorist David DePape, 42, allegedly broke in asking after Nancy Pelosi during the early hours of Oct. 28. Prosecutors say that DePape “violently assaulted” Paul with a hammer before being detained by law enforcement.

Paul Pelosi sustained a fractured skull and suffered serious wounds to his right arm and hands in the attack. He underwent extensive surgery, and was released from Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital the following week.

DePape, meanwhile, remains in jail after pleading not guilty to state charges in early November. He also faces federal charges that carry a hefty term of 50 years in prison.

In his first public appearance since the incident, Paul Pelosi attended the Kennedy Center Honors on Dec. 4 alongside his wife. He sported a hat and wore a glove on his right hand, apparently to mask lingering scars from the attack.

“I haven’t slept since the night my father was attacked,” Alexandra Pelosi admitted, adding that entire family bears emotional scars from the incident.

The Pelosi scion also accused Republicans of making light of the assault on her father, which took place during the heated final days before the Nov. 8 midterm elections.

“I don’t care who you are and who you vote for. Nobody should think it is funny that an 82-year-old man got attacked in the middle of the night,” she said. “And yet, like, a sitting governor and a wannabe governor and members of Congress were laughing about it.”

Although Alexandra Pelosi avoided mentioning specific names, she seemed to be alluding in part to Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, who sent Nancy Pelosi a handwritten apology note after joking about her husband’s injuries during a campaign speech hours after the attack.

The full interview with Alexandra Pelosi airs Sunday at 9 a.m. on CBS. “Pelosi in the House” premieres Dec. 13 on HBO and HBO Max.
