Heavy rain shifts to the Northeast this week, reportsmore rain in flood-ravaged Kentucky could delay recovery efforts.

Sunday will likely be the driest day, with only a few sporadic showers and storms, but that will change toge once the work week begins .

This front will likely take until Thursday or Friday before finally moving, so pockets of heavy rain and flooding are likely every day.

And unfortunately, much of eastern Kentucky and central Appalachia appears to be subject to the most activity.

Several inches of rain are expected this week in the eastern half of the United States, including eastern Kentucky. The region was devastated last week by historic and devastating floods, killing at least 37 people.

Valleys in Ohio and Tennessee will see the heaviest rainfall, but areas of the Northeast and New England can also receive 1-2 inches of rain, with eastern Massachusetts and Rhodes In the north there may be more islets.

The US National Weather Service issued flood watchdogs for parts of Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, and Ohio ahead of heavy rains expected to affect the region.

The downpour will likely take until Thursday or Friday before it finally moves through, so pockets of heavy rain and flooding will be likely every day.

These flood watches will be in effect until at least 10pm . Sunday, according to NWS.

Hazard, Kentucky, one of the hardest-hit areas in the last week, is also under flood watch.
