‘DWTS’ judge Carrie Ann Inaba reveals she needed ‘painful’ emergency surgery

Carrie Ann Inaba revealed that she was recently hospitalized and had to have surgery for an “emergency appendectomy.”

“Special shout out to the wonderful staff of doctors, nurses and aides at @cedarssinai for taking such good care of me,” the “Dancing With the Stars” judge, 55, captioned an Instagram reel of her hospital stay on Thursday.

“I had an emergency appendectomy last week and while it’s been quite a painful experience, I also know it’s a gift to even feel this pain,” she added. “I realize after speaking with my doctor that it could have been much worse.”

Inaba — who has several autoimmune conditions — told her followers that appendicitis can attack your body “suddenly and seemingly out of nowhere.”

She said the health scare has “been quite a painful experience.”

“When you are in that much pain, the last thing you want to do is go anywhere,” she continued. “And when you have autoimmune disease, you are often having strange health occurrences that no one can explain or help you with so sometimes, you try to wait it out, like I did. I was wrong.”

The former “Talk” host said she should have come straight to the hospital as soon as her abdominal pain and vomiting began.

“I should have gone when I couldn’t stand without excruciating pain… but I honestly didn’t want to leave my babies, and I’m so accustomed to pain —thought I should let it play out,” Inaba added.

She then urged her more than half a million followers to immediately seek medical help if they have abdominal pain because it could “be something very serious.”

“Get well soon ❤️ I had that a few years ago. Glad you got it taken care of 🙏🏼 Feel better,” wrote “DWTS” pro Derek Hough.

“Glad you are getting such good care. Hope you are back to 100% ASAP. Sending you 💚💚💚,” wrote ABC correspondent Eva Pilgrim.

“Sending you so much love ❤️❤️❤️,” added celebrity choreographer Brian Friedman.

Inaba has been open about her health issues in the past.

In 2021, she announced she was taking a leave of absence from “The Talk” to focus on her “health and well-being.”

And last year, she revealed that she was diagnosed with several ailments, including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia and Sjögren’s Syndrome.
