Fans blame Skip Bayless for Shannon Sharpe ‘Undisputed’ breakup

The finger-pointing is already starting in the wake of the “Undisputed” breakup.

Shortly after The Post’s Ryan Glasspiegel reported Wednesday that Shannon Sharpe will be exiting the FS1 series he co-hosts with Skip Bayless, fans took to Twitter to digest the seismic split and cast blame.

“Good on Shannon Sharpe for getting away from Skip Bayless,” one user opined.

Another then remarked, “Shannon Sharpe has outgrown Skip Bayless. His future is bright.”

“So Shannon Sharpe is leaving Skip Bayless and #Undisputed I don’t blame him. You could tell after that one blowup about the Hamlin tweet that Shannon was going to leave,” a separate user stated.

Friction between Sharpe, 54, and Bayless, 71, spilled over to the public sphere in January after Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed during a “Monday Night Football” game against the Bengals.

Bayless came under fire at the time for tweeting concern over the AFC matchup being postponed as Hamlin received medical attention on the field.

“No doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game – but how?” Bayless tweeted. “This late in the season, a game of this magnitude is crucial to the regular-season outcome … which suddenly seems so irrelevant.”

Sharpe was noticeably absent from “Undisputed” the following day but returned a day later and put Bayless on blast for his tweet.

“There has been a lot of speculation of why I wasn’t on-air yesterday, and I won’t get into speculation or conjecture and innuendo, but I will say this: In watching that game on Monday night, what happened to Damar Hamlin struck me a little different,” the NFL Hall of Famer said in January.

“As a brotherhood in the NFL, when injuries happen, and we know injuries are a part of the game … but I’ve never seen anybody have to be revived and fight for their life on the field.”

Bayless issued an apology on Twitter earlier that week amid the backlash.

“Nothing is more important than that young man’s health. That was the point of my last tweet. I’m sorry if that was misunderstood but his health is all that matters. Again, everything else is irrelevant. I prayed for him & will continue to,” he tweeted at the time.

Sharpe, who has been part of “Undisputed” since 2016, has reached a buyout with Fox Sports, Glasspiegel reported.

His final show is expected to air after the 2023 NBA Finals conclude later this month.

Though it’s unclear as to who will replace Sharpe, some on Twitter have started to speculate about his next move.

“Shannon Sharpe his first day on first take,” one user wrote alongside a “G.O.A.T.” inspired image of Sharpe.

Another opined, “A @ShannonSharpe vs. @stephenasmith debate show would be must see TV.”

Prior to appearing on “Undisputed,” Bayless famously sparred with Stephen A. Smith on “First Take.”

Sharpe and Bayless did not immediately respond to requests for comment, nor did a Fox Sports spokesperson.
