Former prosecutor on why Trump's Mar-a-Lago FBI search is 'high stakes'

 Former President Donald Trump's Florida mansion by FBI execution. Mar-a-Lago is "unexplored territory," according to former prosecutor and assistant attorney general Harry Littman.

Litman told her Catherine Herridge of CBS News that securing a search warrant in this case would require a very high standard of evidence.

"This type of high-stakes, high-level search warrant service by the FBI. A Department of Justice figure, Lisa Monaco, Deputy Attorney General, probably [Attorney General Merrick] Garland himself," said Littman. 20}

A source told CBS News that the raid was related to a Department of Justice investigation into allegations made by the National Archives 15 in a box of records contains material classified by Mar-a-Lago earlier this year.

Under the Presidential Records Act, documents sent or received by the President must be preserved and provided to the National Archives and Records Administration. Hmm. However, in January the National Archives recovered 15 boxes of records from his Mar-a-Lago. It contained classified material. He also said that some of Trump's White House documents had been torn or taped.

Mr. Littman said the FBI would attempt to carry out a search warrant rather than simply request the records if it feared the records would be destroyed or abandoned. said he would.

In a statement, Trump called the raid "an attack by radical-left Democrats who desperately don't want me running for president in 2024." He added, "Nothing like this has ever happened to a president of the United States."

Fox Trump's son Eric, who appeared on his news "Hannity," said:

Mr. Littman said the FBI seemed to take the investigation seriously, Trump's tenure record saying he could face serious consequences ifwere found to have mishandled the White House.

"This is like stepping on a wasp's nest. It's not the same as saying they're going to charge him, but they treat him like a wasp." "There are other criminal suspects. And it's high drama," Littman said.

President Biden has not commented on the search. A senior White House official said the White House did not receive prior notice of the FBI search warrant.
