Giants’ Mike Kafka will interview with Cardinals about head coaching job

Mike Kafka continues to be one of the hottest commodities on the coaching market.

The Giants offensive coordinator will interview to be head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, according to multiple reports. Kafka already met with the Panthers (who hired Frank Reich), the Texans (who called him back for a second interview) and the Colts about their head coach vacancies.

Kafka’s decision to leave the wing of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and the comfort of quarterbacks coach and pass-game coordinator for Patrick Mahomes in order to be a first-time play-caller under Giants head coach Brian Daboll has worked out brilliantly. The popular mold for NFL head coach is the young, offensive-minded quarterback guru and the 35-year-old former NFL journeyman third-string quarterback fits the bill.

The Cardinals reportedly already have interviewed eight candidates (seven of whom remain available) on a list headlined by Sean Payton but are expanding their search to include Kafka and Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, a Staten Island native who was a Giants assistant coach in 2018.

The Giants ranked No. 16 in scoring (21.5 points per game) this season after ranking last over the previous two years combined.
