The "Happy Days" star announced at the local city council on June 28 that he would run for Mayor of Ojai, California.Ojai Valley News reported.

During public comments at the conference, Williams, 72, said the city needed "leadership to inspire joint teams," according to a local newspaper.

He will face the current mayor of Ojai, Betsy Sticks, who is running for reelection.

Williams became famous for his role as Posty Weber, Ritchie Cunningham's best friend at ABC Sitcom, which was loved in the 70's.

Henry Winkler, his former "Happy Days" co-star who played Fonzie, already supports him.

"You have my vote," Winklertweeted on Tuesdayin response to a KABC-TV reporter's tweet about Williams' election for mayor.

Candidate for Mayor Ojai and run for any office One can formally declare a candidacy, according to Ojai Valley News, by pulling documents at the city secretariat by July 18.

After the end of "Happy Days" in 1984, Williams switched to working behind the scenes as a producer and director.
