Summer is here, and with the heat waves comes new and returning TV shows.
This season’s slate boasts many big-name stars, including Idris Elba, Daniel Radcliffe, and both Timothy Olyphant and Kim Cattrall in not one but two summer shows.
From hotly anticipated hits that are returning for their sophomore season, to old favorites making comebacks, to brand new fare, here’s everything you need to know.
“Glamorous”
This show looks like a less-vicious version of “The Devil Wears Prada” for the modern era, starring Kim Cattrall. The plot follows aspiring influencer Marco (Miss Benny), a young queer man who lands a job working for legendary makeup mogul Madolyn Addison (Cattrall).
Premiere date: June 22 on Netflix.
“The Full Monty”
A follow up to the 1997 British comedy about steel workers who form a male strip-tease act, this series is set 25 years later, following the same band of working class brothers. The original movie’s stars return, including Robert Carlyle (“Once Upon A Time”) and Mark Addy (“Game of Thrones”).
Premiere date: June 14 on Hulu.
“The Righteous Gemstones”
Now that “Succession” has ended, if you miss watching a dysfunctional family flail through their self-inflicted drama on your TV screen, look no further than Danny McBride’s comedy about a wealthy televangelist family, helmed by patriarch Eli Gemstone (John Goodman). McBride co-creates and stars in the show, which is now in Season 3, and Walton Goggins plays an oddball side character named “Baby Billy.” New additions to Season 3 include Steve Zahn, Stephen Dorff, and Casey Wilson.
Premiere date: June 18 on HBO.
“The Bear”
Season 1 of the hit show followed Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), a New York City chef who returned to run his family’s Italian beef sandwich shop in Chicago after the death of his older brother. Season 2 follows Carmy as he continues to adjust and deal with his ragtag team, his journey to revive the place, with help from Sydney Adamu (Ayo Edebiri) and Richard “Richie” Jerimovich (Ebon Moss-Bachrach).
Premiere date: June 22 on Hulu.
“And Just Like That”
Season 1 of the “Sex and the City” spinoff show followed Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker ), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) through life in their 50s – notably sans Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), who didn’t return to the show amidst her rumored feud with Parker. Season 2 will feature a cameo from Cattrall, the return of Carrie’s former love Aidan (John Corbett). And yes, Miranda’s controversial new love interest Che Diaz (Sara Ramírez) will also return.
Premiere date: June 22 on Max (formerly known as HBO Max).
“Hijack”
Idris Elba stars and executive produces this new thriller. When a flight is hijacked during a journey from Dubai to London, corporate negotiator Sam Nelson (Elba) tries to use his professional skills to save everyone on board. Archie Panjabi (“The Good Wife”) co-stars.
Premiere date: June 28 on AppleTV+.
“Miracle Workers: End Times”
This is Season 4 of the comedy show starring Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi, but it’s an anthology, with each season being a different stand-alone story. This season is set in a dystopian future, following a wasteland warrior (Daniel Radcliffe) and a ruthless warlord (Geraldine Viswanathan) who are navigating married life in the suburbs. Buscemi plays a junk trader.
Premiere date: July 10 on TBS (10 p.m.).
“Full Circle”
Directed by Steven Soderbergh, this six-episode limited series stars Claire Danes, Zazie Beetz, Jharrell Jerome and Timothy Olyphant. The plot follows an investigation into a botched kidnapping.
Premiere date: July 13 on Max (formerly known as HBO Max).
“Justified: City Primeval”
“Justified” aired for six seasons on FX from 2010 to 2015, starring Timothy Olyphant as Raylan Givens, a Kentucky-based U.S. Marshall. This miniseries continues the story, where Raylan Givens is now in Detroit, pursuing The Oklahoma Wildman, Clement Mansell (Boyd Holbrook).
