I had a mischief 15 years ago. Now I'm fighting for your rights in the Georgia State Capitol

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles.

The Supreme Court's ruling to overturn the Roe v. Wade case felt like a deep-rooted punch, not only because women deserve every opportunity for men, but because I had an abortion 15 years ago.

It's not a story that a mother in my position wants to believe in me and remember. But we are anxious to have the far-right politicians see the damage they would do if they eliminated access to safe abortion.

I was 37 years old when I decided to have an abortionfor medical reasons. My husband and I were excited to know that we were pregnant, but we need to be especially careful if we are over 35 years old.

SUPREME COURT ROE V WADE DECISION Reaffirm why you have to fight to elect a democratic woman, Pro Choice

With 12 weeks of ultrasound, everything seemed to be going well, so we shared exciting news with our family. Our five-year-old daughter was in a trance and she immediately started talking to my belly and she said she loved them to her brother and her sister. She was very happy to see her excited and sweet face.

There is no doubt that it was the right decision for me and my family, including the fetus.

However, a few days later, a doctor called me that a blood test showed trisomy 18 (a chromosomal abnormality classified as "incompatible with life"). In essence, my pregnancy ends with a stillbirth or the death of my baby who is living a very painful short life outside the womb for only a few minutes before the stillbirth. surprised.

They asked me to come to the genetic test immediately and finally confirm the diagnosis. Both my perinatal doctor and my alumnus recommended termination because I had a young child who was dependent on my age and me.

SUPREME COURT OVERTURNS ROE V. WADE IN LANDMARK OPINION

After a week of sleepless nightsTrisomy 18 Study41} And while my daughter kept kissing my belly and talking to her brother and sister, I looked for hope that the doctor might be wrong-the result is It was always the same.

My heart was broken into millions of small pieces. The decision seemed impossible.

When I was willing to ask if my unprotected friends and even strangers knew when I was due and the gender of my baby, what did my husband and I do? I kept imagining what to say. And there was a devastating vision that the youngest daughter, who was only six years old, would bury her brother, who she fell in love with.

My doctor checked in several times a week and always reminded me how difficult it is to get pregnant. My daughter's birth wasn't walking in the park. Then she asked: Is it worth it just to endanger your life and perhaps delay the inevitable leaving your daughter without a mother? I knew what I had to do and was planning an abortion.

The Supreme Court ruling proved that we were not "hysterical" and we were right

I And the right decision for my family, including my fetus.

I hope my daughters have no reason to think of such an impossible decision. But in the worst case, it is devastating to think that the freedom to choose the best one for the family may not be the same. Despite the opposition of trained doctors, it is unlikely that they could be forced to continue their pregnancy at great risk to themselves.

To make matters worse, some local media Parliamentarians are no exception – also about the health of the mother. These militants across the country are legislation that deprives us of our freedom, punishes women leaving the state to obtain abortions, arrests doctors who carry them out, and encourages procedures for reporting vigilantism to the government. We are obsessed with controlling our body.

Need a brave politician, including a Republican colleague under the Gold Dome in Georgia So sharing my story, knowing their behavior will kill people like me. Passing a law that prevents the care of doctors will cause children like me to lose their mothers.

This is not possible in Georgia. The Novembermidterm electionis literally a matter of life and death for Georgian citizens. We need leaders who protect our rights, not deprive them.

I refuse to be the first generation of daughters with less rights than mothers. The time to silence on this issue is over. We must use our collective voice and power to protect our right to medical privacy and physical freedom.
