“We have to work with” China to combat climate change, and “we even have to find a way, ultimately, if we can resolve the war in Ukraine, to work with Russia, because Russia is a huge emitter,” US climate envoy John Kerry told Yahoo News.
He’s as deluded as ever, in other words, and not just in glossing over the invasion of Ukraine as a road bump in the War on Climate Change.
Neither Vladimir Putin nor Xi Jinping gives a damn about climate change.
At best, they mouth the talk that idiot Westerners (like Kerry) want to hear, figuring it can only encourage Washington and others to destroy their own economies in a rush to “decarbonize.”
Oh, and maybe convince richer nations to bribe them to make promises they can easily break.
China just launched another 138 coal plants this past year; Russia’s economy depends on its oil and gas exports.
More delusion: Kerry blathers, “President Biden empowered me to reach out to China and work with China, which we have done for two years, and with some effect.”
What effect, exactly?
Last August, China suspended all dialogue with the United States on climate issues — not that it had made a single real concession before then, other than to put up with Kerry droning on.
In the same interview, Kerry defended fat-cat climate activists (Harry and Meghan, say, or Kerry himself) who fly around in private planes (the ultimate climate sin) because they’re “working harder” on this issue than the folks who are supposed to sacrifice.
What a diplomat: This climate envoy has no clue how to convince anyone who’s not already smoking out of the same pipe.
