Kaley Cuoco has come a long way since 8 Simple Rules. Her career in television since the 2002 sitcom has been hit after hit, from Charmed to The Big Bang Theory and The Flight Attendant.
Now, the actress, whose been working in the industry since the ’90s, says she’s “past” filming sex scenes. Speaking to USA Today, she revealed that she used a body double when filming sex scenes in her new Peacock series, Based on a True Story.
“I don’t roll that way. I need someone else to do that stuff,” she said. “I’m past that. I’m not doing that anymore. Also, who wants to see that? Not my thing.”
With special effects and some “movie magic,” she says, it’s no longer necessary for her to film those scenes.
“I’d rather let someone else do it, and that’s what’s movie magic (is for). We don’t have to do those things anymore. We can have someone else do it, and we can fake our way through,” she said, before adding, “You think that Chris Messina played tennis? Please! He was terrible! That’s his double.”
Cuoco was pregnant with her first child during filming, bringing her to rely on her body double more, especially when filming fight scenes.
“I had to be on my feet a lot. It was a lot,” she explained. “And by the end, I was nine months pregnant. So the fight scene at the end near the grave − the fantasy − a lot of that was done by my double because it was like I was literally about to give birth, like any second.”
She soon gave birth to her first daughter, Matilda, on March 30, 2023.
The actress shared that she was able to embrace her pregnancy more while filming the show. The producers also reportedly told to eat more for the role, which was a first for Cuoco.
“You’ve seen every part of my life − good and bad − in front of everyone. And so it was kind of cool to show this too,” she said. “Why not? Why not just own it and wear short shirts and let my stomach hang out? I did the swimsuit scene, … And I’m very proud of it, and I hope it inspires other women to be like, ‘It’s fine. We can still do it all.’”
Cuoco’s new series Based on a True Story is now streaming on Peacock.
